Getting started

The content is freely available on the Internet and are my teaching knowledge base. The wiki provides a platform for me to test my ideas into developing a teacher centered personal content management system.

The twitter feed on the front page is provided so users can quickly feed me comments. If you are sending a tweet simply add the #vmvwiki tag and it will appear on my first page.

Using the wiki in your teaching

  • When displaying onto an overhead screen, there are two things you need to do (1) increase the font size of the text, and (2) Hide the navigation bar. To hide the navigation bar, tap the [Pause/Break] key on your keyboard. Note that IE is a badly behaved Browser, so you may need to click the compatibility icon (From IE8 next to the URL bar).

Using the wiki for research

  • Many pages in this wiki is zotero friendly (pages will have zotero in the footer). If you are using Firefox and have the zotero extension, you can click on the zotero capture icon and the page will be added to your reference database.

New User Editors

So you would like to to add or change some of my content.. brilliant.. that's exactly why I have my content in a wiki. However, be aware that the changes will be shown to everyone who uses this site (which is actually pretty cool really!)

To get started why not use my wiki to create your own one!!. Once you have logged in click on your name. This will open up a personal space and you can create your own content and mess around with the wiki. Here is an activity to get you started...

..and if you want to use my standard template ...

  • Quick wiki tips - Always available in the Navigation bar (on the left). Allows you to paste a template onto a new page, and has basic code for inserting things like tables and images.

I do change it as I find new things that would be helpful to add to this page.

 this way, all markups are '''ignored'''.

Although you can use HTML for styling text using bold and italic tags for example, to future proof it will be good practice to use inline style attributes instead. The FONT tag is deprecated so use SPAN instead. Below is the full list of currently allowed HTML Tags:

 <abbr>, <b>, <big>, <blockquote>,<br />, <caption>, <center>, <cite>, <code>,
<dd>, <del>, <div>, <dl>, <dt>, <em>, <font>, <h1> - <h6>, <hr>, <i>, <ins>, <li>,
<ol>, <p>, <pre>, <s>, <small>, <span>, <strike>, <strong>, , , <table>,
<td>, <th>, <tr>, <tt>, <u>, <var>, <!--comment-->

Table Markup

{|
table start
|+
table caption, optional; only between table start and first table row
|-
table row, optional on first row -- wiki engine assumes the first row
!
table header cell, optional. Consecutive table header cells may be added on same line separated by double marks (!!) or start on new lines, each with its own single mark (!).
|
table data cell, required! Consecutive table data cells may be added on same line separated by double marks (||) or start on new lines, each with its own single mark (|).
|}
table end
