Flash/HTML:Inserting FLV

  • To make a webpage containing an FLV movie, you need first a controller in SWF format. It is the SWF file which will be embedded in your webpage as a normal Flash element. The SWF file will load any FLV video files and display them on the page, as well as control any function like start/stop. There are many ways to make the SWF player, and there are many SWF open source players ready to use.
  • Major (2006)[1] describes how to do this with an swf file you can download (player.swf). The relevant html code is shown following. To make it work, copy the files on your webserver, and replace the file "helicopter.flv" with your own flv file, and point your browser to the html file containing the player.
     <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="320" height="260"
       wmode="transparent" data="player.swf?file=helicopter.flv">
     <param name="movie" value="player.swf?file=helicopter.flv" />
     <param name="wmode" value="transparent" />

FLV file needs an swf wrapper - You must copy an swf controller file (player.swf) for the flv file to play.
