Introduction

Expression Web is an HTML editor and general web design software product by Microsoft. It is part of the Expression Studio suite. The basic interface is used by other Microsoft products including: SharePoint Designer and Visual Studio.

Brief History

  • Was preceded by FrontPage which was provided as part of the Microsoft Office Suite from 1997 to 2003 (Microsoft FrontPage, 2010) [1], and in a cut-down form as FrontPage Express with Internet Explorer.
  • Version 1: 2006
  • Version 2: 2008 (added PHP and Silverlight support)
  • Version 3: 2009 (rewritten for Windows Presentation Foundation without Microsoft Office dependencies)
  • Version 4: 2010 (Added SuperPreview to show what your site looks like in other browsers - even if they cannot be installed on your computer, plus added Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Checker )
