Some questions to consider

  1. Do you (or have you) made your content available for others to use and or reuse?
  2. How do you FEEL about other people using your content?
    • should they acknowledge your authorship?
  3. How "available" is your content – to you students / to the world?
  4. Who owns the copyright to your content?
  5. Would you encourage your students to produce Open Content?

What is an Open Education Resource?

Due to the widespread availability of the Internet, there is a significant movement where resources are being developed collaboratively and shared globally which requires a shift in thinking for educators developing content.

Open educational resources (OER) : "teaching, learning and research resources that reside in the public domain or have been released under an intellectual property license that permits their free use or re-purposing by others. Open educational resources include full courses, course materials, modules, textbooks, streaming videos, tests, software, and any other tools, materials or techniques used to support access to knowledge.” Atkins, Seely Brown, and Hammond, (2007)

Creating OER Content

Wiki technology is a common way to deliver OER Content.

MediaWiki common platform (used and developed for Wikipedia) OER repositories WikiEducator, Wikiversity, (WikiResearcher)?
