  • Bridge
    • An interconnection device that can connect LAN's using similar or dissimilar data links such as Ethernet, Token-ring, and X.25.
  • Broadband
    • The bandwidth that includes microwave, satellite, coaxial cable, and fibre-optic channels. It is used for very high speed computers.
  • Buffers (GIS)
    • A spatial analysis tool. The buffer is a user-defined region around a map object that can be used to select and analyse data attached to underlying regions
  • Bulletin Board
    • An electronic message system. Electronic Public access computers, where software may be distributed, bug fixes posted, advice on many topics given

 

  • Bus Line (Bus)
    • An electronic roadway that connects parts of the CPU with other important devices. Also a connecting cable in a bus network.
  • Bus Network
    • A network where all communications travel along a common path. Each device in the network handles its own communications control. There is no host computer or file server.
  • Button Bar
    • Buttons appearing below the menu bar, that when selected with the mouse perform preset actions. Eg., in Word processing may bold highlighted text.
  • Byte
    • A group of 8 bits. There are 256 possible bit combinations in a byte.
