Physical care

• Internal hard disk drives
  • Switch off when moving. Modern disks autopark.
  • When moving avoid jolting or dropping PC
• Removable hard disks
  • Usually have a quoted drop height

Logical Care

• Scan disk
  • Scan disk (or equivalent) checks the disk surface for bad sectors and lost clusters, thereby improving disk performance.
• Defragmentation
  • As files are added, modified and erased, they become fragmented over the disk. Defragmenting the hard drive will improve file access and therefore performance.
