Handling Precautions

  • Handle disk by outer edges and centre hole take care with both sides, they are easily damaged.
  • Fingerprints, smears, dirt or dust can interfere with the recording and reading funtions.
  • Store at a temperature below 40 degrees C (104 degrees F).
  • Do NOT bend or place on a hard abasive surface.
  • Store in a protective case to avoid contamination, scratching or other damage.
  • Do not expose to direct sunlight or to hot humid conditions. This could lead to disk warpage and data degradation. They are made of acrylic and will buckle with high temperatures
  • Don't use a PC based CD-ROM in your stereo - the loud noises will probably damage your stereo.
  • On a SONY-CDR
    • Do not handle and prevent from scratching, the green signal ide of the media.
    • Keep the signal side clean by protecting the surface from dust, stains, fingerprints and water drops.
    • If CD becomes stained or collects dust, gently wipe with a soft dry cloth using a CD cleaner or ethyl alcohol.
    • Do NOT usde a benzine thinner any anti-static agents, or conventional photograph record cleaners.

Cleaning

  • Use soft dry lint free cloth.
  • Wipe from the center to the outside edge, perpendicular to the data tracks.
  • Do NOT clean with a circular motion.
  • Do not use abrasive or chemical cleaning agents.
  • Avoid prolonged wiping in very dry environments. This can cause static build up and result in dust attraction.
  • Clean with slightly warm running water, don't rub them - pat them dry with a clean cloth.

Labeling

  • Do not remove labels this may result in delamination..
  • Never use ball point pens or sharp instruments to label disks.
  • If CD-R has a designated area for marking use a permenant felt tip marker.
