Collision handling

In a multi-user database, two users may try to update the same record at the same time. For example, in a flight reservation system a seat may be vacant for two booking clerks so they enter the data and a collision occurs when the data is to be committed to the database.

Encryption

File locking

Special attributes can be given to files. For example;
  • Read only (the file can be read, but not altered in any way)
  • Hidden (the file will not appear in the directory window)
  • A password added to the file to limit access to authorised people
  • In MS-Windows File manager (see diagram)
    • Select the file you wish to view the properties for
    • Select File | Properties
