The internet is full of pages containing contradicting views, more detail etc.
2. Don't be lazy
Requesting information via Email or newsgroups is a common way t gather expert advice.
Do background research before posting a request. People are willing to exchange ideas if
they are interested in your discussion. Think of a cocktail party.
3. Use the right tool
Newsgroups, mail-archives.
Serious researches will also subscribe to Compuserve that contains a great deal of
information not available on the internet.
4. Keep a record
Storing good URLs in an electronic notebook (I use html pages). Storage is cheap and
time to refind is expensive.
5. Ask the right person for help.
Anyone from a kid in the Ukrane to the President of the US may be on the web.
6. Give it some time.
The night before is not the time to start looking for data. Serious research requires
two weeks to a month to yeild good results
7. Be critical.
Because it's on the internet doesn't mean its useful, correct or even true. Try to
corroborate the data.
8. Give up if necessary
Everything you ever wanted to know is not on the internet. Don't waste time looking for
something that isn't there.
