Employed by computer bureaus, companies with large computer installations and businesses with large numbers of microcomputer users..

Key Tasks

  • Provide on site assistance to computer users.
  • Install and maintain computing equipment and software.
  • Solve computer related user problems by giving advice and assistance.
  • Research and test new computing equipment and software to judge its suitability for use within the organisation.
  • Provide assistance to the help desk operation.
  • Provide training for computer users.
  • Liaise with help desk and networking staff to provide timely solutions to user problems.

Personal Qualities

  • Able to liaise with a wide community of computing users.. Outgoing personality, able to relate to a variety of people, enthusiastic, self motivated, persistent and confident. Need to be able to show initiative, persistence and have good working habits. Need to be able to organise the workload and work under pressure and with minimal supervision. Need to be a clear logical thinker. Able to follow a problem through to its solution. An enjoyment of teamwork is an advantage.
