People - Careers - Overview

People who use the computers are classified as end-users (or just users)

People are the reason we have computers in the first place - to make us more productive!!

Many types of people benefit from computer use;

  • Clientele - benefit from the computer
  • Users (or end-users) - use the computer as a tool
  • Operations - run the computer
  • Systems development - Programmers and analysts
  • Training - Tutors, Manual writers (Documentation), Multimedia developers (computer based books)

While almost all jobs now have a computer component, there are "specialist" jobs where the main functions are computer related.

Traditionally a computer professional was someone highly skilled in the workings of the computer, rather like a car mechanic today, but with improved reliability of the hardware and software, a huge range of available software applications "off-the-shelf", a "user-support" professional is becoming more common.

In this topic I will use two classifications.;
