Key Tasks
Teach people who wish to acquire computing skills and who wish to gain employment in the computing industry.
Prepare lessons and courses, and conduct research into new developments in the computing industry.
Personal Qualities
Excellent communication skills, outgoing personality, able to relate to a variety of people, enthusiastic, self motivated, persistent and confident. Need to be able to show initiative, persistence and have good working habits. Need to be able to organise the workload and work under pressure and with minimal supervision. Able to explain technical matters in a simple and understandable way. Able to motivate and direct students with their learning in a positive and supportive manner.
Entry Requirements
Most organisations require a good tertiary qualification in business computing or computer science as well as some practical experience in the computing industry. Teaching experience whilst being an advantage is not essential.
Training
Tertiary qualifications gained at University or Polytechnic in computer science, business computing or some related field the academic qualifications required. Experience within the computing industry over a wide range of tasks provides the required practical experience.
Prospects
Promotion within the educational sector, administration and management positions, return to the workforce or become self-employment.
