Business system

Organisations consist of many business systems, each having the features of a system. The general features of all systems are identical, all systems can be considered in these terms.

Example: Manufacturing System

[manufacturing system]

  • Purpose is to produce products that fulfill a market demand
  • To achieve this they interact with their environment to obtain necessary materials
  • To keep functioning they must be under control
    - meet quotas
    - meet performance standards
    - acceptable quality and cost
    • Performance must be monitored
    • Manufacturing systems are themselves subsystems within the organisation
  • Manufacturing systems are made up of subsystems
    - acquiring materials
    - maintaining equipment
    - training workers
