Overview

Plotter :

Modern plotters are inkjet based wide carriage printers.
Traditionally pens were used to draw on a flat bed with 2 dimensional movement of the pen OR on a drum with 1 dimensional pen movement and rotation of drum.

Use

Used to produce hard copy of graphics.
Useful in computer aided design (CAD).

Features

Usually wide ink-jet printers
Originally used "pens" to draw lines on paper.
May be;
- "flat-bed" where the paper lies stationery and pens move in 2 dimensions, or
- paper will move on rollers, with the pens moving horizontally

Hewlett-Packard inkjet "Design-jet" printer.
