Caters for the inserting and removal of new hardware devices such as hard drives, CD-ROMs  etc. into a working PC.
  • Three sizes proposed. Two for use in both PC's and Laptops and one for desktop PC's only.
  • DB13, DB20 and DB32 (height in mm) (A typical 5.25" drive bay is 43mm high).
  • Will use either or both of USB or Firewire (IEEE 1394) connectors
  • Will enable manufactures to build PC's that can be customised by a retailer.

Possible suitable devices include;

  • Readible and writable CD and DVD drives
  • Smart card readers
  • Satellite TV decoders
  • High speed digital modems and network cards
  • Hard drives
  • High capacity removable drives (Jaz, SuperDisk, Magneto-optical, Zip)
  • Audio devices such as decoders and effects processors (dolby Digital or Pro-Logic)
  • (1998,Aug) The device bay - hot-plugging it
