Information - value & use

  • What value does an organisation place on it's data?
  • If your notes were stolen what reward would you offer to see them returned?
  • How long would it take you to re-type all your course notes?
  • If an organisations data were destroyed by fire, how difficult would it be to replace all the data?

It is generally recognised that information is a corporate resource, as are capital, personnel, equipment.

Information is used to make decisions about use of other resources :

  • Top management for strategic planning
  • Middle management for short term planning, control
  • All areas of organisation for day to day operations.
