Logical database design:
Mapping the logical data models (DFD's and ERD's) to the target DBMS structures. In a
relational database this includes selecting unique identifiers and normalisation.
Physical database design:
Creating the actual files and tables in the DBMS.
Note: Physical database design is not (usually) the same as the Physical storage of the database, which is maintained on the hardware by the DBMS.
