The purpose of disk storage is to
- Save data and programs "permanently".
- Allows for direct (random) and sequential access of the data and programs.

Uses for disk storage include;
- Holding data files such as Word processing documents, graphics, video, sound, database
etc.
- Holding program files such as applications like word-processing, spreadsheet, database,
