Database management systems are a cornerstone application for many business
applications. Data is collected for all parts of a businesses, and a DBMS is used to
manage that data.
Insurance claims database
A joint initiative by most insurance companies where claims data will be collected and
stored centrally.
Primarily used to combat fraud, in an industry where in New Zealand false claims cost
the industry more than NZ$50 million per year.
Hopefully will stop people claiming off several companies from the same set of receipts.
