Data coding systems - overview |
| As discussed in "Number systems" errors
occur when storing decimal numbers in binary. Hence, we need to be able to retain the
numbers in their original form, and use calculations appropriate to the situation. For
example, in financial transactions, significance needs to be retained to the cent (two
decimal places).
Similarly with the introduction of text processing, and the requirement to manage text data, systems were developed to represent characters in binary. This module discusses these representations, and concludes by discussing how you should go about creating coding systems that may be used in business situations. |
