Creating & viewing a basic html
in MS Word97
|
Creating the first (home) page.
- File | New
select the Web Pages tab
Do not select the New icon since it creates a new document from the normal template,
normal.dot.
See diagram 1
- Select Blank Web Page, then Ok
- Notes:
- If "Blank Web Page" is not showing the html
extensions to Word need to be installed. In some cases these can be retrieved without
installation by creating a "standard" new document and using "Save
As" and selecting a "htm, html" document type.
- Just a reminder here, if your computer (or the target computer) use an 8.3 file format
use the "htm" extension.
- Type in the following;
<Your name>'s Home page
** Hello world **
Hardware
Software |
- Save the file in the folder you created (eg. D:/myhtml ) as
home.htm
Notes. I have changed the default html extension to htm, to remain
compatible with early filename conventions (what we call the 8.3 type).
Save the file completely in lowercase. If eventually you want the page copied to a unix
server upper and lower case makes a difference.(Home.htm is different from home.htm)
.. and that's your first web page.. easy aye.
Start up you web browser (if not already started)
- In Internet Explorer
Select File | Open | [Browse].. and find your page (eg.
d:/myhtml/home.htm
Select [Ok] to load it into the browser...
.. and that's the first page created and viewed.
Note that you do not have to close the document in Word first to view in the browser.
This means you can make changes in word, save the changes, then [Alt]+[Tab]
to the browser, click on the browsers [Refresh] button and view your
changes.
