With all the connections in place and the video recorded, you will now be in the position to convert your video to a digital format.

Microsoft Video for Windows 1.1 is a freeware capture/editing program for AVI files that was designed for Windows 3.x. (It will also run on Win95).

Video for Windows is made up of two basic programs, vidcap (video capture) and videdit (video editor).

Capturing Video

If all is well vid cap should display your image (as shown left).

Setting the capture file.

  • A capture file will need to be set the first time vidcap is run. (Use File|Set capture file.)

Check audio

The Video Blaster RT300 requires you to connect the sound to the sound card.

It is important therefore that the microphone recording levels are set.
(A setting which is too high will cause sound distortion).

Capturing a palette

In order to give the best quality avi file, you should capture a palette. Palettes are discussed in the graphics section of multimedia.
(Use Capture | palette).
Note if the palette option is dimmed you do not have this option.

Setting capture options
  • Selecting Capture | Video gives the screen shown left.
  • Since full motion /full screen television video runs at 30 fps it is useful to set the frame rate at 15 fps.
  • See notes above (storage options) for capture method.

Capturing the video

  • To bring up the recording cue dialog box click [Ok].
  • Start the playback and press [Ok] to begin video capture.
  • Press [Esc] to stop the capture.
