Scanning - Scaling

When scanning you should scan to produce the size required from the destination device.

In general a scanned image should never be enlarged in the final application.

VDU:

A sVGA screen displays 800 x 600 pixels at roughly 75 pixels per inch. So to have a photo on the VDU appear at roughly the same size as the original scanning at 75ppi would be sufficient.

If you want to enlarge the original, either scan at a higher scale (double the original = 150 ppi) or percentage.

Printer:

Pixels per inch (PPI) will equate to Dots per inch (DPI). But you may find that 200 ppi colour photo will reproduce as well as a 600 ppi scan (with an obvious decrease in file size). - refer to the Resolution chart.
