Table: Data manipulation
Database records need to be added, changed or deleted. This is easily achieved in Table view.
Table: Add new records

Select the New (record) a97b_nw1.gif (872 bytes) button to add the following records.

Exercise
  • LastName, FirstName, Address1, TownCity, Phone, SubsPaid, DutyHours
  • Rom, C D, 25 Player St, NAPIER, 834 7711, 45, 12
  • Stick, Joy, P O Box 113, HASTINGS, 844 1551, 60 , 15
  • Raphone, Mike, 325 Noise St, NAPIER, 832 9599, 0, 0
Table: Edit records
  • With the Member table open in Table view.
  • Place the cursor in the correct field and change the following data.
Exercise
  • Sally Forth married and became Sally Armie
  • Lily Pond moved to 12 Ruahine St, HASTINGS
  • Morris Dancer changed phone number to 025 123 4567
  • Note:
    • When the "pencil" is showing the record is locked in the database, but the changes are not "committed" until the pencil disappears (either you exit table view or proceed to the next record).
Table: Delete a record
  • Place the cursor in the record you wish to delete.
  • Click on the delete record button a97b_dr1.gif (897 bytes)
    You will be asked to confirm the delete.
Exercise
  • Delete Peter Out
  • Notes
    • A block of records can be deleted by highlighting the records (use the mouse in the grey blocks at the front of the records) and using the delete record button.
    • Once records are deleted they cannot be recovered.
Table: Sorting records
  • With the Member table open in Table view.
  • Place the cursor in the field you wish to sort by.
  • Click on the sort ascending or sort descending button.
